Down locking Reel seat turned of pressure-stabilized, Red-Palm Wood, inlaid with Fossil Mammoth Ivory & stabilized Turquoise.
The transition ring is turned of Desert Ironwood and Fossil Mammoth Ivory.
The hood and lightly tapered Slip Ring are hand fabricated of Nickel Alloy ("Nickel Silver") ornamented with 18K gold.
The Rivet heads are of 22K gold bonded to Nickel Alloy wire.
The Nickel Silver edge on the Slip ring has been given what in jewelry is known as a Florentine finish, hand worked with a line graver. It gives an effect much the same as fine knurling.
Red Palm Wood is from one of two known varieties of palm tree that have a trunk that grows solidly enough to be used for woodworking. The large fibers that give it such an interesting, woven look are extremely hard. This piece has been treated with a polymer. The Desert Ironwood in the transition ring is from the Ironwood roots that my grandfather brought in from the Arizona desert over a century ago. (See Woods section)
