RS-0703: Up locking Reel Seat turned of Bocote Wood from Mexico. Inlaid with Black Coral from the South Pacific, Fossil Mammoth Ivory and 18K Gold separators and topped with an 18K Gold bead. The Nickel Alloy Hood and lightly tapered Slip Ring are patina-ed a medium black. The Hood is ornamented with 18K Gold. The Slip Ring fabricated, lathe turned, and with 22K Gold beads riveted in place. The texture on the Slip Ring edges is hand graved at an angle with line graver. Bocote is one of the oily woods and so it has been treated with a special sealer made by a colleague--who won't disclose the formula--and then buffed to a nice dull luster. The final finish coat is pure Carnuba Wax applied with heat and friction.

Bocote, a member of the laurel family, is one of the more lively appearing woods from Central America. It is patterned with black lines on a yellow to brown background. These lines tend to swirl around and give the appearance of burl whether knots are present or not.
